The biggest night in music lived up to its reputation bringing out the most popular stars in music, electrifying performances, and risk-taking fashion. The lovely ladies of the music world lit up the red carpet in their glamorous gowns, yet others took a few risks too many. The Grammy awards is made for fun fashion, but some outfits were not as much fun as they were failures. Here are College Lifestyles’ picks for the best and worst dressed of the night.
1. Taylor Swift
The country crooner usually is all about glitter and tulle at most award shows, so her metallic Zuhair Murad dress was a nice change up from the usual. Swift’s daring fashion move proved to hit all the right notes on the red carpet.
2. Katy Perry
Although the blue hair may have been a bit much, almost leading Perry into “Smurf” territory, the Elie Saab gown she donned was stunning. The intricate detail and flowing train were a sight to look at.
3. Kelly Rowland
The R&B songstress positively glowed in this Alberta Ferretti gown. Rowland complimented the simple dress with natural makeup, and she looked stunning walking the carpet.
4. Jessie J
Jessie J wowed in this mermaid, “disco ball” dress by Julien MacDonald. Her sleek, dark hair was a perfect match for this chic ensemble.
5. Carrie Underwood
Underwood looked fresh and beautiful in this sequined white gown by Gomez Gracia. She kept it simple with a messy up-do and diamond earrings.
1. Esperanza Spalding
Spalding looked lovely from the neck up, but everything from the neck down was a mismatch of colors and accessories. The cut of the dress didn’t quite work, and the mixture of grey, white, orange, and maroon proved to be an inharmonious combo.
This Jean Paul Gaultier tangerine dress was one of the most talked about outfits of the night. There’s no denying Fergie has an amazing body, but this “leave little to the imagination” dress didn’t quite work.
3. Alison Krauss
There are so many things wrong with this dress. The ankle length doesn’t do any favors for the drape of the fabric, and the netted top looks out of place. The outfit weighed Krauss down, and landed her on the worst dressed list.
4. Nicki Minaj
Fergie may have had one of the most talked about outfits of the night, but Nicki Minaj had the most talked about red carpet appearances. This Versace “Little Red Riding Hood” outfit looked a bit outrageous, even for the Grammys, but it was the man dressed like the Pope by Minaj’s side which will have people talking for days.
5. Skylar Grey
This outfit looked too much like a tapestry or window curtain to be pleasing. The dark red lipstick against the bright white of the dress didn’t quite mesh well together, and the red high heels looked out of place with the rest of the ensemble.
