Top 4 XY Board Accessories for Students.

Dorm, apartment, study group, library, coffee shop, sorority/organization meetings, car, class, gym.  let’s face it, college co-eds follow a very busy agenda.  With coffee in hand and phone/tablet in other, students are constantly on the move.  In between our agendas, we are skyping family, texting BFFs, and organizing emails using our phone/tablet.

The folks at Verizon Wireless asked us ‘What are wish list accessories for your Droid XY Board?’  As a proud Verizon ambassador, we have been testing great Verizon products, the Droid RAZR and Droid XY Board which you will read future reviews.

We in the College Lifestyles home office would be quite lost without our Droid RAZR and Droid XY Board.  Texting one another, checking our emails, developing AND delivering presentations and posting to our Facebook/Twitter are a part of our daily activities.  We are quite attached to our technology.

Seventeen Magazine Announces 'Pretty Amazing' Contest

We were lucky enough to chat with Jo Saltz, Executive Editor of Seventeen Magazine, to further discuss this incredible contest.

College Lifestyles (CL):  What has your response been (from your readers) on the ‘Pretty Amazing’ contest?

Jo Saltz (JS): Seventeen readers love the idea of seeing themselves and their peers on the cover—it’s a dream come true! So girls have been so excited to tell us their stories, and show us their best cover looks. We keep hearing from girls that they had so much fun entering that it doesn’t even matter if they win!

CL:  Along with last year’s winners, what are additional unforgettable ‘Pretty Amazing’ stories/quotes you have received from readers?

JS:  There were so many stories that moved us—narrowing it down to five finalists was nearly impossible. We couldn’t believe how many girls overcame terrible tragedy, fought life-threatening illnesses, made a major impact in their communities, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for causes. Every month, we try to inspire girls to do great things—but reading each of these entries truly inspired us.

CL: Is there anything in particular you and your team are looking for with this years ‘Pretty Amazing’ stories?

JS: It’s really important to Seventeen that the entrants feel a personal connection to their stories and their causes. We believe that every girl is capable of doing amazing things—but it’s the girl who can tell us WHY that amazing thing was emotionally important to her that will catch our eye.

CL: We feel Emma Roberts is ‘Pretty Amazing’ and fits the mold of a classy lady that resonates with our readers, what makes her ‘Pretty Amazing’ for Seventeen readers?

JS:  Emma is all-around Pretty Amazing: She’s talented, driven, good-hearted, and passionate—not to mention that she’s got incredible style and fun, friendly personality. She’s a celebrity that every girl can look up to—and she knows how important it is for our readers to make an impact. For all those reasons, she was an obvious choice to be a judge of the Pretty Amazing Contest.

Love It: Tracy Stern SALONTEA Review

Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter.  From its luxurious scent to delicious taste, the College Lifestyles office embraces tea any time of the year.  From a cup on the go, to organizing amother/daughter or sorority tea party, our new ‘go-to’ tea is Tracy Stern SALONTEA ‘The Writer.’  (And yes, my one year old daughter will be having her first tea party soon!)

Tracy Stern SALONTEA 'The Writer'

The Tracy Stern Salon ‘ The Writer’ Tea consist of black tea leaves with cinnamon, clove, and cardamom give ‘The Writer’ its sophisticated and chic taste – similar to the characteristics of our CL team!

While I love ‘The Writer’ tea, Tracy Stern SALONTEA offers various varieties including:  The Musician, THe Society Hostess, The Romantic, The Fashionable Dandy, The Artist, and The Lover.

When brewing Tracy Stern SALONTEA, be sure to pay close attention to the directions.  While we steep conventional green tea bags for 1-2 minutes,  ‘The Writer’ steeps for 3-5 minutes.  One can then add cream, sugar, and/or honey.  (Etiquette tip:  If planning a tea party, sugar cubes are preferred due to neatness).

Tracy Stern, founder of SALONTEA, developed as a lifestyle brand that encompasses a fusion of fashion, style and art and TEA blended into distinct yet interconnected categories. She uses tea to bring people together and believes that everyone should experience life through simple defining luxuries, from preparing the perfect cup of tea, to creating the most elegant and effortless tea party.  One can purchase her tea by visiting her website OR NYC location.

Disclaimer:  We’d like to thank the team of Tracy Stern SALONTEA for supplying samples for our review.  Opinions of the product are all our own.

Shelly Marie Redmond, MS, RD, LDN is the Editor in Chief of College Lifestyles.  An avid tea drinker, she loves the classiness and sophistication of a modern day tea party and is the proud owner of Tracy Stern’s Tea Party Book!

Day 9: Your Embarrassing or Awkward Date Moments.

When I am interviewed by a writer and when speaking to groups, I am often asked to describe myself.  Simply put, I am a the child of Little Miss Sunshine meets Awkward Turtle.  To simplify, positive and accident prone.  Newton’s law applies to Shelly Marie Redmond leading to extremely awkward date moments.  While I am poised, if someone will fall, it will be me.  If something falls on someone, it will be on me.  I have been known to walk into walls, potholes, and tables; as well as spill ketchup, drinks, and food in my lap.  Dating has been an adventure; and my husband now knows not to fill my glass completely full, keep the tablecloth away from me, and drop me off at the door of a restaurant.  (Yes, while I LOVE heels, I have fallen in the one crack on the sidewalk while on a date).

Long story for such a question….

Do tell…..

Your embarrassing and/or awkward date moments.

Day 8: What was the ‘Slow Song’ of the school dance AND post a picture!

Remember the moment during a school dance when everyone ‘Oooooed’ and ‘Ahhed’ for the SPECIAL song?  The song where you longed to be asked, ‘Would you like to dance?

The ‘ooo’ and ‘ahh’ songs of my dances were:

  • The Dance by Garth Brooks.  How could you not love this country classic?
  • Love of a Lifetime by Firehouse .  Yes, I was raised in the final days of the hair bands.  The cheesier the ballad, the better.
  • End of the Road by Boys to Men.  The more emotional, the better!

Along with our favorite slow songs, join us on twitter as the College Lifestyles team tweets pics of their past school dance photos.  #CLlove

Tell us….

What was the ‘slow song’ of your school dances?
