CL’s Entertainment Round Up!

The Entertainment Round Up is back this week! And, what an action packed week for its return. Everyone’s favorite celebrities, from Lourdes Leon to Johnny Depp, were busy this week. So what was Hollywood up to?
You’re A Superstar Lourdes Leon!
Madonna has released another preview for her hotly awaited upcoming album MDNA. This time, Queen Madge featured her daughter Lourdes Leon. The track, “Superstar,” has Lourdes singing backup in the chorus. The up beat song seems to be dedicated to Lourdes, with the lyrics, “you’re my angel bringing peace to my life. Oh lala you’re my superstar. Oh lala love the way that you are.” What a great mother-daughter message. To hear Lourdes and Madge’s collaboration click here!
Welcome to The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games premiered in Los Angeles this Monday. Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson walked the star studded red carpet. Everyone expressed their excitement and pride for the movie. Leading lady Lawrence even admitted during interviews that she accidentally knocked out Hutcherson during filming. Producers weren’t joking about training. Get your fill of the Hunger Games on March 23.
No More Ms. Nice Gaga
Lady Gaga may be ending her love affair with the media. Gaga’s interview with Oprah Winfrey will air this Sunday as a part of Winfrey’s Next Chapter special. After the special, the pop superstar says she’s not opening up for a while. Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta said in the interview “I do not intend to speak to anyone for a very long time. … No press, no television, if my mom calls and says, ‘Did you hear about…’ I shut it all off.” How long do you think this vow of silence will hold for Gaga– does her Twitter count as chatting? Tell CL in the comments!
The Boys Are Back In Town
You can’t keep a good team down for long. Director Tim Burton and Johnny Depp will be back on the silver screen with Dark Shadows, a remake of the popular soap opera of the same name. The trailer for Shadows hit the Internet this week, watch it here. The supernatural campfest centers around Barnabas Collins, a 17th century vampire who wakes up in the very different 1970′s. Catch Depp back in front of the camera with Helena Bonham Carter along with new co-stars like Michelle Pfeiffer and up and comer Chloe Moretz on May 11.
Bye, Bye Love Broker
I hope you haven’t gotten too attached to Bravo’s newest show Love Broker. The new show featuring matchmaker Lori Zaslow has been pulled from Bravo’s schedule. Broker premiered on March 5, with only two episodes airing. Both installments drew less than 500,000 viewers. Bravo’s hit Bethenny Ever After will be put in Broker’s time slot. If you did get hooked on Broker, expect to see Zaslow’s reality show return this summer.
This week also saw the Duchess Of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, playing field hockey in sneakers and the development of a Mortal Instruments movie, the heir apparent to the Twilight and Hunger Games throne. Next week will be dedicated to more Big/Little goodness, so look forward to the return of the Round Up in two weeks!

CL’s Guide To Shopping For Your Little!
March 8, 2012 by Ariana Romero

I’m usually an entertainment writer for College Lifestyles. Only something really exciting can pull me off of The Hollywood Reporter and People. One of these events is about to kick off: Big/Little Week! Earlier this week, I started buying everything to fill my baskets. After long hours on Amazon.com and figuring out my favorite Letter combinations, I’ve learned a few tips.
Think about your traditions
Because Alpha Gamma Delta recolonized at Syracuse University Fall 2010, my big and I are just beginning our family. This gives us a chance to talk about why we’re so similar and what we want our family to stand for. When you’re shopping for baskets, especially if you have a Letters themed one, consider what matters most in your family line. What has every fabulous woman passed down or valued? What are some fun things like your favorite colors or animal?
Check out her social networks
Some of the most creative things I’m putting in my Little’s basket come from comments she’s made on Facebook and Twitter. If the whole world can see it, you should check it out! Maybe she Tweets about her favorite shows or put a link on her Facebook of an awesome necklace she found. If your Little has a Pintrest, you’ve hit the jackpot. Everything she loves is in one place.
Shop around
Maybe everyone at your chapter buys from one official Greek licensed retailer. But look around! See who has the best prices for what you want. Some websites have amazing deals that you wouldn’t otherwise know about.
When shopping for items to put in your basket, go to local craft or hobby stores and dollar stores, they have great choices that you wouldn’t find elsewhere. They’re also usually reasonably priced. Go to the mall for the things you’ve always had your heart set on from a specific store. Amazon also offers low prices and free shipping on many items.
Talk to her
It may seem obvious, but talk to your Little! Simple everyday conversations will illuminate so many things about you’re her you wouldn’t otherwise know. I ordered my little a poster I would have never thought of purchasing without just talking to her as a friend. It’s also the things I’m most excited to give her. Talking to her will tell you what she’s really passionate about and what makes her tick.
Happy shopping CLassy ladies!

CL’s Entertainment Round Up

This week was a surprisingly busy one in the entertainment world. It was filled with possible new romances and tons of television news. It was a great time for the pop culture obsessed!
Fostering A Relationship?
The publicity tour for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax may not be the only thing Taylor Swift and Zac Effron have recently started. The two visited Ellen this week, and were simply adorable. Swft even taught Effron how to play the guitar! Effron sat with his arm around Swift until they began a duet. Swift shrieked in pride once Effron proved he could strike E minor on his own. “Only a girlfriend would react that quickly,” remarked DeGeneres. To see the two songbirds together watch the video here. Tell us how do you feel about the possibility of Swiffron in the comments!
Back to the Community

Community lovers rejoice! The cult comedy will be back on NBC March 15 at 8p.m. Fans of the show can now put their pitch forks down and go back to enjoying one of the best shows out there.
Sarah Hyland’s Boyfriend Welcomed Into The Family
Do you ever wonder how star’s boyfriends deal with their girl’s onscreen beaus? Well, Sarah Hyland’s boyfriend actor Matt Prokop won’t have to. He’s set to star along side his real-life girlfriend, who plays Haley Dunphy on Modern Family, as her television boyfriend. The hit comedy has hired Prokop to play Haley’s newest love interest. I hope this relationship works well for the eldest Dunphy daughter, or else that will be an awkward episode for Hyland and Prokop.
Glee Cast Walking Down The Aisle?
All Gleeks out there were waiting for this week’s episode, “On My Way.” Glee star Lea Michele felt for her fans and decided to give them a little present. On Monday she tweeted “In anticipation of tomorrows very memorable episode.. We took this photo.. We call it GLEE-MAIDS..” In the tweet was a hysterical photo of the Glee girls as the Bridesmaids actresses—hot pink dresses and attitudes included.
This week also saw Dorothy’s ruby red slippers (talked about in the last Round Up) saved by Leonardo DiCaprio for the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, a second book announcement from Justin Bieber and tons of Oscar buzz. I can’t even wait to know what’ll happen next week. Check back next week for the Round Up!

A CL girl is a busy girl—even the interns. I usually use Friday’s to write for all of you, our wonderful readers. After compiling all the week’s juiciest Hollywood gossip and entertainment I get down to making a coherent article. This Friday was instead filled by hours of reporting for my news class and writing a surprisingly long story. The rest of the weekend I got to spend time with the great girls from the Zeta Omega chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta, who visited us at Alpha. But that doesn’t mean I forgot about my Weekly Roundup. Here’s Hollywood’s Weekly Roundup—the weekend included.
Happy Birthday Riri!

Today is Rihanna’s birthday. Let’s hope she finds love in a hopeful place this time around. The pop superstar is 24 today, and a certain ex of hers didn’t forget. Chris Brown tweeted at the birthday girl, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN!” Robyn Rihanna Fenton answered with a simple “Thanks!” It’s good to see that the two can be so amicable after such a difficult public break up.
Whitney Houston Goes Home
Loved ones gathered on Saturday in Newark, NJ to say goodbye to singer Whitney Houston. A private viewing for those especially close to Houston was held on Friday. Industry insiders like Oprah Winfrey, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder all paid their respects to their friend.
Lindsay Lohan Back and Livelier Than Ever
When I searched IMDb for Lindsay Lohan’s most recent projects, Herbie Fully Loaded came up next to her name. Remember when LiLo actually did things? I miss those times. Well, she’s about to be directly back in the spot light—and live! The actress is set to host Saturday Night Live on March 3rd with Jack White as the musical guest. With an iconic Debbie Downer sketch already under her belt, I’m excited to see her back on SNL.
We’re Not In The Smithsonian Anymore
Dorothy’s infamous ruby slippers from The Wizard Oz won’t be on display for much longer. The famous footwear will be pulled from their current spot in the Smithsonian, and prepared for conservation. The shoes will be back out for the “American Stories” display starting April 5th.
The Vow Promises Not To Disappoint
Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams have a romantic blockbuster on their hands. Last week, The Vow took in $11.6 million on Valentines Day, the highest gross a movie has ever made during the holiday mid-week. The record-breaking movie beat out former winner, 2005’s Hitch, which made 7.5 million on the romantic day.

Classy Co-Ed On Campus: Katelyn Block
February 20, 2012 by EllenR
Filed under A Classy Featured Reader, CL ExCLusives!, CL on your Campus, Lifestyle, Michigan State University, Nutrition, Syracuse
Katelyn Block, also known as Chef Katelyn by the readers of her blog, has it all: beauty, brains, personality, and style. College Lifestyles decided to catch up with Katelyn to find out what makes this chick so fantastic and to get her input on what it takes to be a classy co-ed on campus.
College Lifestyles: What does being “classy” mean to you?
Katelyn Block: When I hear the word “classy”, a few others come to mind: grace, style, and kindness. College life isn’t always such, but I try to handle daily occurrences with grace, walk and live with style, and interact with kindness. No other way to go!
CL: What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
KB: Kind, bubbly, and incredibly passionate.
CL: What is your dream job?
KB: That’s a tough one. Honestly, if I could have a full-time job blogging, doing freelance writing and graphic design, and working in PR and/or at a magazine, I would be the happiest girl alive. Right now I am incredibly happy with where I am — the future is on its way.
CL: How do you stay healthy in the chaotic world that is college life?
KB: I don’t get too choosy about what I eat in the dining hall, mainly because it’s the least of my worries. Nineteen credits? That’s where my worries are! I always try to keep it balanced, for example, if I find myself wanting that gorgeous piece of chocolate cake for dessert, I nix the pizza and have a brown rice and tofu stir-fry instead. Maybe some veggies with hummus. It’s not always easy for me to choose the vegetables (I’ve had this problem ever since I was a child), but if I can’t bring myself to have veggies, I’ll at least have some quinoa.
CL: What is your favorite way to move?
KB: Yoga! And walking across campus. I used to be a cardio queen (gym junkie, if you will), and even ran a half marathon. For some people, this is enjoyable for a lifetime. For me, it lasted a season. These days, I’m all about mindfulness and making it natural.
CL: If you could only eat 3 foods the rest of your life, what would they be?
KB: Easy. Hummus, chocolate, and baby carrots. All together. (Just kidding ….kinda)
CL: What are your “must-have” beauty items?
KB: Mascara, foundation + bronzer, and most of all, my chapstick that looks like a glue stick via Palmer’s Cocoa Butter.
CL: Any advice for our readers or anything else to say?
KB: My advice for every walk in life: be yourself! Those around you will appreciate your genuine nature, and you’ll be a happier person. Get those endorphins.

She is a new member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.

CL’s Entertainment Round Up!
February 10, 2012 by Ariana Romero
Filed under Celebs & Entertainment, CL Daily, CL ExCLusives!, CL on your Campus, Entertainment, Syracuse, The Dish, ‘Stay in’ Sunday
Fresh from Formal Spring Recruitment, I’m back with the week’s Entertainment Round Up! If you’ve been busy with class, recruitment and maintaining a normal sleep schedule you’ve probably missed some of Hollywood’s juiciest gossip. With Valentine’s Day only days away, love is in the air.
Bravo’s Into Miami’s Real Housewives
Well, the TV network still has a crush on at least half of its Miami housewives. Three of the six ladies will return for season two. Marysol Patton, Lea Black, and Audriana de Moura will be back with more drama, bathing suits and parties. The network stated in a Bravo Press release, “”This season will give viewers an inside look at these aspirational women as they juggle family, work and the fabulous social scene in a city where the food is spicy, and the drama is even spicier.”
Co-Stars Cozy After Divorce
Golden Globe winning actor Michael C. Hall (Dexter) was seen around Venice Beach, Ca. still looking quite comfortable with co-star Jennifer Carpenter. The two cuddled and watched the sunset. Carpenter and Hall divorced in December 2011 amicably. This isn’t the first time the two have been seen together. Cameras caught the formerly married couple getting coffee in January.
Adele’s Still Got It
Although some were worried about Adele’s voice post throat surgery, the songbird can still belt out a tune like no one else. CBS aired a teaser clip of the British songstress singing heartbreak anthem Rolling In The Deep for Anderson Cooper. This Sunday, January 12, will be Adele’s first official return to the spotlight when she performs at the Grammy Awards.
No Love For M.I.A.
Madonna is quite miffed with English rapper M.I.A. M.I.A. flipped everyone the bird during the Super Bowl half time show, angering NBC, the NFL and apparently Madonna. Madonna said the middle-finger-incident was “such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do.” Although inappropriate, we all know worse “malfunctions” can happen during a Super Bowl performance.
I can’t wait to see what drama, love connections and break-ups Hollywood has in store for next week.

CL’s Weekly Entertainment Round Up!
January 27, 2012 by Ariana Romero
Filed under Celebs & Entertainment, CL Daily, CL ExCLusives!, CL on your Campus, Entertainment, Movies, Syracuse, TV, ‘Stay in’ Sunday
It’s time for the Entertainment Round Up! This week was filled with Oscars news as well as tons of updates from the Sundance Film Festival. So much so that unless you were checking Twitter every minute something probably fell through the cracks. There were some more exciting pick-ups for the fall television season, plus more Toddlers and Tiara’s drama (surprise!).
And The Oscar Nomination Goes To
Were you excited to see cutie Ryan Gosling (Drive) pop up when Best Actor In A Leading Role was called during the Academy Awards? So was I. Unfortunately, this time around we won’t be seeing the Canadian actor of “hey, girl” fame. Instead, we will be seeing George Clooney and Brad Pitt and I’m not complaining. Favorites like Rooney Mara and Michelle Williams were nominated for Best Actress.
Indie Films with Hollywood Names
Sundance has been filled with some of your Hollywood favorites. IFC recently acquired Josh Radnor’s (How I Met Your Mother) dramadey, Liberal Arts. The film also features up-and-comer Elizabeth Olsen and Zac Effron. Liberal Arts tells the story of a 35-year-old man who falls for a sophomore at his alma mater. Celeste And Jesse Forever starring Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live) and Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) sold to Sony Pictures Classics. Samberg and Jones play a married couple that divorce yet try to maintain a friendship.
Fall 2012: The Season Of The Princess
The CW has been developing a reboot of 1980’s soapy crime drama Beauty And The Beast since last fall. Although you may guess that would be the only pilot possibility named after everyone’s favorite French Disney princess, think again! ABC has begun developing another Beauty And The Beast pilot. The ABC freshman show would be based more on the traditional story.
T & T mother Susanna Barrett is suing multiple media outlets, including TMZ and Huffington Post, for $30 million over supposedly “sexualizing” her daughter. TMZ released a video of Isabella Barrett singing chart-toping hit “Sexy and I Know It” by LMFAO behind a DJ booth. Barrett insists she and her daughter were at “a pet friendly charity event […] at 7:19pm.”
After an exciting week in entertainment hopefully next week features more fabulous TV developments and less Toddlers and Tiaras drama.

The wait is finally over! Lilly Pulitzer’s 2012 Sorority Print Class has been officially revealed. “Over, around, about” one million votes were cast by excited voters according to Janie Schoenborn, Lilly Pulitzer’s Fashion Director.
While usually three prints win per year, Pulitzer showed fans how much she appreciates them by accepting five new sororities into her sisterhood.
The winning sororities are Alpha Xi Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa and Pi Beta Phi!
Schoenborn unveiled the winning prints at her alma mater, Rollins College in Florida, with the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma. KKG already has a print with Pulitzer.
Winning sororities are encouraged to “stay tuned to Facebook” by Schoenborn. The social networking site will publicize when the brand new prints will be shown.
According to a Lilly Pulizer blog post today, prints should be revealed by the end of February. Pre-ordering should be start in June, while your favorite new wristlet will be in the mail by August.
If your sorority hasn’t won a print yet, don’t worry! Schoenborn promises a new class of prints next year.

CL’s Weekly Entertainment Round Up!

A busy CLassy co-ed doesn’t always have time to check up on her favorite celebrities and television shows! Especially not with Spring Recruitment coming up and her classes starting. With that in mind, CL has the Weekly Round Up out every Friday. What show is The CW Developing? Who’s getting engaged? Who’s breaking up? Instead of waisting valuable time looking up your burning pop culture questions daily, here’s your entertainment cheat sheet.
The CW Picks Up The Carrie Diaries
After six seasons and two movies do still you feel like you don’t have enough Carrie Bradshaw in your life? The CW understands how you feel, and is hoping to fill the Sex and The City hole in your heart. This week the CW officially picked up the pilot for The Carrie Diaries. The Candace Bushnell prequel novel sheds light on Bradshaw’s family, early relationships and character development. We can only hope the show does the same! Now it’s time for the fun part: who will play Ms. Bradshaw?
Dakota Fanning Goes Pink

Dakota Fanning seems intent to prove she’s not the little girl from I Am Sam anymore. She’s the February 2012 cover girl of Cosmopolitan and this week she dyed her the tips of her hair pink. Fanning showed off her new ‘do on Tuesday with a crisp white button-down and black wedge boots. This is a super cute look if you want to try something different, but not too over the top. It’s also a good idea to save the dye until after recruitment!
There’s A New Bachelorette
ABC has officially picked their Bachelorette for next season. The winner of season 15, featuring bachelor Brad Womack, Emily Maynard has officially agreed to join The Bachelorette and hopefully find love for a second time. Production is rumored to be moving down south, to Charlotte, N.C. to accommodate Maynard and her young daughter. What will Maynard’s dedication to class and respectability mean for the Bachelorette’s next season? Tell us what you think in the comments!
Kate Middleton Takes A Vacation
CL’s Classiest 2011 Individual, Kate Middleton, was en route to St. Lucia with her family, sans Prince Williams, as of today. The Duchess is likely to visit the island of Mustique with her parents and siblings Pippa and James. Mustique is a popular getaway destination for the Middletons as well as Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger.
This is only the first of many Weekly Round Ups! Check back next Friday to see what all your favorites are up to in Hollywood.
