Going off to college you will be put in all types of situations and be faced with many professional opportunities. Whether it’s a business fair, job interview, or for a class project there’s no reason why you can’t look professional while also looking stylish. These outfits will help you get on your way there!
Having a pair of black pants in your closet will come in handy for all of your professional needs! Because black is a neutral color it can basically be matched with any color blouse, cardigan, or blazer. You can go standard with a white button-up top or go a little bold with a colorful top and cardigan or blazer
Khakis are another important essential for a classy co-ed to have in her closet. Although it can be sort of tricky to match a top with khaki you want to avoid having a washed out effect with a pale top so go for a more colorful top approach instead! This is also another neutral color so it can work well with most colors.
Skirts can come in handy in a serious professional setting or a more relaxed one such as a social or meeting. Having a black and white skirt in your closet will be very needed as well as a more bold one such as a floral skirt to add a pop of color!
Taking a more girly approach to professional attire is something you can take on! Having a dress and pairing it with a cardigan or a blazer(for a much edgier look)! With so many different varieties and colors will leave you with a wide variety to choose from! Just make sure that the dress is appropriate length and if it’s spaghetti straps or strapless to wear a cardigan or blazer!

5 Tips on Getting Your Closet Ready for Moving!
August 4, 2011 by LasharriaT

Move in for college is fast approaching and packing all of your clothes will be a task that can be seen as a hassle. What to pack, what not to pack, and getting all of your clothes to fit in your suitcases is easier said than done. But with these five easy tips you will be able to ease the task and pack all your must needed items!
1.Weed through your wardrobe
Going through the clothes that you wear and the ones you don’t will be the first starter for getting your clothes ready to pack for the Fall. For those that you have to second guess, be sure to try them on and decide on whether they fit and if you still want them. You’ll be surprised at the amount of clothes you may not wear anymore and taking up space. Be sure to donate all of the clothes that you do not want to your local thrift store!
2. Stocking up
Although shopping is nice anytime, it’s best to reign in your shopping before heading off to college. Having new clothes to take with you is great but remember that most people have not seen your wardrobe before so they will be new to them, hence no need to go shopping for new school clothes. Stocking up on essential pieces are okay but be sure to monitor what you buy in relation to what you have in your closet.
3. Pack for the immediate season
This tip works for the time when it gets to be really cold or when it becomes much warmer. Going home during a holiday like Thanksgiving and exchanging your Summer clothes to Winter ones will come in handy because you won’t be stuck taking up too much space with clothes that you do not wear and are not season appropriate. Most dorms vary on closets and drawer size so this would be a good idea for those with limited space!
4. Packing early
Actually going ahead and packing as early as possible is another task that will make moving easier. Having one thing checked off your to-do list for college is something that will be very helpful and one thing off your mind when you are preparing all of your other things to take to college.
5. Be realistic!
When packing you’ll want to take all of your items at once but remember your suitcases can only hold so much and you will have to pack other necessities. It’s okay to feel as if you are leaving some of your clothes behind because you will be! But remember on those weekend visits, anything you feel as if you need to have with you at college you will be able to take back with you!

Interview with Teen Vogue Intern Lauren Drago!

Where are you from? What college do you attend and what is your major?
Lauren: I am from Pleasantville, NY—a very small town in the suburbs of New York City. I am going to be a senior at Michigan State University, where I am pursuing my degree in Creative Advertising.
Activites you do at college?
Lauren: I am the Editor in Chief of VIM Magazine, the first student-run fashion and beauty magazine. Prior to becoming editor, I was the founding Beauty Director. I am a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. I am also a web writer for Career Services at MSU.
I saw you were involved in a magazine as well, could you tell a little about that?
Lauren: VIM is a magazine for the students of Michigan State that was founded in 2010. It is completely student- run, so all writers, stylists, photographers and designers are university students. We use runway trends as inspiration and create content that is relevant to fashion-minded students on a college budget. We strive to keep the surrounding community in mind; we feature local businesses and their merchandise in fashion spreads, articles and advertisements. Our staff is passionate about bringing style, beauty and awareness to the MSU community with fresh, relatable content. VIM is an amazing opportunity for students to get real-life experience, as many of our staffers have held internships at major publications.
What made you apply to be an intern at Teen Vogue and some of your best experiences there?
Lauren: I worked in the beauty department of Vogue Magazine last summer and quickly fell in love with beauty. I have been an avid reader of Teen Vogue since it’s conception, so it was natural that I would go to the sister mag of Vogue! The beauty department receives products before they hit stores so I love trying new products and blogging about them on TeenVogue.com. I am really into glitter and neon nail polish, so my nails are always painted crazy colors. I am starting to really get into my skincare regimen—premature aging is not in my plans anytime soon! The beauty teams at both Teen Vogue and Vogue are comprised of incredibly inspiring women and I have learned so much from each of them.
Your fashion/beauty inspirations?
Lauren: I am inspired daily by real women and teens. I was on the train coming to work recently and I started discussing beauty products with an older woman. There was an instant connection when we realized we both loved Bobbi Brown Beach products and the Nars Cap Ferat eyeshadow trio. Beauty connects women, no matter the age. It is universal; even the simplest of women, who may only use a dab of concealer and a swipe of mascara, will connect with you when you discuss brands, products, what they like/dislike etc. I love feeling that connection with someone you barely know. Aside from daily inspirations, I love the beauty of the sixties. The bright poppy colors, the innocent-yet-sexy cat eye, spider lashes—I could go on and on. I especially love Barbara Perkins in Valley of the Dolls. If I had a muse, it would be her. Fashion inspiration? Miu-Miu. I am lusting over their fall collection of shoes. I think I tweet daily about my want/need for the entire collection.
Career plans?
Lauren: I definitely want to continue working in beauty, whether it’s working in the beauty department of a magazine or in the public relations department of a brand.
Any advice for other girls looking to score internships at places like Teen Vogue?
Lauren: INTERN! Seriously. You learn skills that are invaluable as you head into the workforce after graduation. Make the most of your time in college. Get involved and start working towards your goals while you are still in school. It makes such a difference when you can walk into an interview and show you’ve gone above and beyond in college—not only in class. Follow your dreams. If you want to work in fashion or at a magazine, you can do it. Be persistent, always stay positive, and never let the fear of failure stop you from attaining your dreams.
Big thanks to Lauren Drago for doing the interview and you can also follow her on Twitter- @lauren_drago for any other questions you might wanna ask!

Coming to college and learning how to shop and budget is something that is definitely a must. Having money to hang out, shop, or to eat with can easily come and go in a matter of weeks, but with these tips you’ll be able to make your money last and will also make your parents proud!
Budgeting
Planning your budget for the month is the best starter for learning how to shop like a college student. It will take a few months to exactly learn how you’re budgeting will go and what you’ll need. But make sure you seperate your needs and wants and put your money aside for those items. Most importantly be realistic!
Talking to your bank
Talking with your bank and setting up a student account will help you save money in college. Often times a student account prevents you from having to pay a monthly fee on your bank account and you can also set up a spending limit on your card that will be helpful and prevent overspending.
Discount cards
Having discount cards will also come in handy when shopping at your favorite stores and will help you save money. Being in a new city and exploring a new mall is always fun, but asking for a discount card will help you get in on saving on each purchase. They also email you from time to time and this can keep you in the know about new sales and exclusive savings!
Thrift stores
Shopping in your local thrift store is a definite must for a classy co-ed. With all the items being reasonably priced you will be sure to save money. Also with the thrift store donations being from various people you can find all sorts of clothing and accessories and many times some vintage items. Heading to a thrift store with your friends is always a budget saving activity that you will be sure to enjoy!
Closet Shopping
Having a fashion forward roommate, friend, or sorority sister will also come in handy while you are in college. Swapping clothes and essentially shopping in a friends closet can be a lifesaver when you are heading on a date, social, or outing. But always remember to wash and return the clothing in a timely manner and make sure that your friend does the same. Last, the best perk about “closet shopping” is that it’s free!
By using these tips in college and practicing them now you will surely be on your way to being a savvy saving co-ed! Making small changes in your spending is always effective and overtime you will become a pro in cutting back and saving on your shopping!
