If you are like me (and the rest of our CL interns!), you kept up on New York Fashion Week. Maybe you even tweeted about it.. #NYFW. You probably wish you could take the clothes right out of the glamorous pictures to wear yourself- I know I do. Now you can recreate the looks on your own! These Polyvore sets all use basic ideas such as color blocking and unique jewelry. The first collection is a more casual look featuring a light lace top and simple accessories. The second is a perfect day or night look with the eye-catching combo of coral and mint. The third look was inspired by Ralph Lauren’s high fashion garden party set. Most of these looks can be created using items from Forever 21, H&M, American Apparel, and J Crew.

2 Different Ways to Wear Lace on Valentine’s Day
February 11, 2012 by Morgan DeBoest
Filed under Ask the Intern, Ask the Intern, CL ExCLusives!, CL on your Campus, Drake University, Fashion, Fashion, Shopping Bag, What We Love
Every CLassy CL reader wants to look their best when going out this Valentine’s Day. Why not try a new look this year? There are many ways to incorporate lace into your outfit. We are going to explore the black lace with red accents and red lace with tan and gold accents.
The little black dress has been transformed! Wear a one-shouldered black lace dress and you’ll have guys lining up to be your V-Day date. Pair it with either black or red heels and an oversized red clutch. Keep the jewelry simple but visible: a silver heart necklace and some dangle earrings should do.
Since it IS Valentine’s Day, you are allowed to bring out your foxiest red heels. They are a staple color and just seem to go with the occasion. Make sure they match your bag- you don’t want any clashing reds!
Keeping up with the one-shouldered theme that is so popular this year, try this red lace look. Your accessories should be gold and tan to allow the red to pop.
Be creative with your accessories- they should complement, but not outshine, your dress.
This night is all about you, and wearing lace will make you feel 100% bombshell.
Enjoy your V-Day!

Confession: I Date My Study Partner

The hardest part about college is finding the balance between academics, a social life, and sleep. Luckily for you, Classy CL reader, it IS possible to be in a relationship and still get good grades! After a full day of class and studying, what could be better than watching a movie or cooking dinner with that cute guy in your Bio study group?
When you are studying, stake out the perfect cozy corner and find a table you can share. Make sure you both have enough space for whatever you are working on. Bring study snacks, coffee, and water. If you have a long day of studying planned, schedule breaks where you can grab lunch or just walk around and get some air. Bring headphones so you can block out people and other distractions in the room with you, and make eye contact when you are taking a break from looking at your work.
Have plans for after the study sesh. These plans can involve anything from a slice of pizza to catching up some Netflix. Start a new show like Dexter or Mad Men. It is important when you are trying to balance studying and dating to have relaxing options for your evening activities. If you plan to have a wild night on the town, studying suddenly won’t seem so important.
It’s SO possible to have a successful study session while looking forward to a great night. Having fun activities planned makes it easier to be productive.

The Relationship Between Big and Little Sis

Filed under About Sorority Life, Ask the Intern, Ask the Intern, CL ExCLusives!, CL on your Campus, Drake University, Sorority Life, Sorority Resources
Out of all the hundreds of sisters you gain when you pledge a sorority, your “Big” becomes your closest friend and mentor. When you first join your sorority, you probably don’t know many people yet, and your Big can help you get to know her friends and other people in your Greek Family. Everyone in your pledge class will be fixed up with a Big Sis. Prior to the reveal of who your Big Sis is or around Initiation, you might receive gifts (handmade gifts, treats, letters) or little notes from your Big- it’s her job to be your support system and go-to girl!
Your Big Sis is someone you can tell anything to and guides you through all of your most important moments, such as I-Week.
Now that everyone is coming back from winter break, it’s important to catch up and spend quality time with your Big!
Activities you can do with your Big/Little Sis:
Go out to eat
Pedicures
Movie night
Crafting
Work out
Library dates during midterms/finals
Get coffee!
Make sure you plan some fun “family nights” too! Your Big’s Big is usually pretty similar to her and all of you can end up being great friends. It’s important to get to know more girls than just your pledge class, and this is a fantastic way to start!

How to Make the Perfect Latte
January 9, 2012 by Morgan DeBoest
Filed under Ask the Intern, CL on your Campus, Drake University, Lifestyle, Nutrition, What We Love
Every college girl needs her Starbucks, but getting your daily caramel macchiatos really adds up after a while! Thankfully, making your own latte is super simple. To purchase these items, just click on the picture! Things you’ll need:
- Espresso machine w/ steaming wand.
2. Frothing pitcher
3. Milk- Skim or 2%.
4. Espresso pods.
5. Flavored Syrups- try sugar free!
6. A cute mug or paper cup!

Courtesy thethingsiwant.com
How to make the perfect latte:
- Pour your milk into the frothing pitcher. If you are doing a 16 oz latte (the size of most travel mugs), pour 11 oz of milk into the pitcher. For 12 oz, froth 7 oz milk, and for a 20 oz, froth 12 oz of milk.
- If you want a flavor, add one shot (1 oz) for the 12 or 16 oz size, and 1 1/2 shots (1 1/2 oz) for the 20 oz. My favorites are caramel, hazelnut, or toffee.
- Put one espresso pod into the filter holder.
- Pull shots (they should either fall into the carafe or shot glasses that come with the machine.) A perfect shot is pulled between 21 and 24 seconds. Do not let it go above 28 seconds!
- Steam the milk. Don’t let it get too foamy! You can use a thermometer and aim for 120-140 degrees, or wait until the pitcher is too hot to hold and steam for 5-10 seconds after that point.
- Pour the shots into your mug or cup, and add the milk slowly. If you have a lot of foam in the pitcher, use a spoon to hold it back until the cup is full.
- Enjoy!

CL’s 5 Ways to Survive Black Friday
November 21, 2011 by MeganS
Filed under About Sorority Life, Ask the Intern, Ask the Intern, Drake University, Fashion Friday, Sorority Life
Black Friday a frightening sight. Everyone is running around like mad men trying to get that designer clutch they have had their eye on since September. Plus it doesn’t help that the employees are cranky from having to be friendly at midnight and the shirt you want is never in the right size. Fear not my fellow trend-seekers, CL is bringing you 5 surefire ways to keep you alive and well during the madness of black Friday this year.
- Rations: Black Friday usually means an all night stake out. It is imperative that you bring snacks, water and tons of hot cocoa to keep you warm. Grab a lawn chair and some blankets and you’ll be the most comfortable girl in line.
- Coupons: Getting the right deals is all about having a plan. Before even thinking about lining up for this fateful day, check out the advertisements. They will most likely have coupons that can only work on black Friday, ensuring you even cheaper items than what the in-store deals have to offer.
- Map it out before: People go for large ticket items on black Friday, and if you are one of them you need to know exactly where the product you want is located in the store. Do a bit of comparative shopping and then find what you want so you’ll be prepared to make a mad dash for it.
- Know what you want: Simply put, and as stated above: don’t go into black Friday shopping blindly. If you don’t have anything in mind you want, sleep in and go for cyber Monday instead. You’ll be in such a better mood plus you won’t have to leave the comfort of your couch.
- Bring a buddy: There is nothing lonelier than black Friday shopping without company. Grab your best gal pal and get ready for a long night of gossip, coffee and great deals.
Top 5 Guilty Makeup Pleasures

Sometimes paying the extra dollar is worth it. Don’t believe me? How many times have you had to throw away your cheap brand of mascara because it got too chunky, or even your foundation for that matter? Time to throw out your old makeup, and upgrade. These are my top five favorite makeup items that I am loyal to because they work, and better yet – they last.
To purchase any of the products, click on the pictures!
1. Bare Minerals Starter Kit
Why we love it: The primer sets your skin and helps the powder [foundation] look invisible while covering any imperfections. It also includes a bronzer as well as a mineral veil, which finishes of the look to help set your makeup for the rest of the day giving you a beautiful matte look!
2. Smashbox Lipgloss
Why we love it: It gives you that extra oomph for a night out, and their nude glosses are great for daytime. It’s long lasting and most importantly NOT STICKY.
3. Kat Von D True Romance Eye Shadow
Why we love it: First off, I have never had an eyeshadow last as long as this set has and I use it everyday. The shadow doesn’t wear off, and each palette it create for mixing to accentuate your eyes.
4. Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner
Why we love it: Picture an eyeliner that doesn’t smudge, is waterproof, and looks like it was painted on – your wish is our command. Bobbi Brown’s Gel Eyeliner makes it easy to paint your liner on with a makeup brush and have beautifully lined eyes that last.
5. DiorShow Blackout Mascara
Why we love it: We love big lashes, and Dior delivers. Not only does this mascara bring you big, luscious lashes, like all the other products listed, DiorShow is long lasting so no need to reapply throughout the night.
