The College Lifestyles Timeline.

How was College Lifestyles developed?

It is hard to believe the concept of College Lifestyles ™ was born before CL Founder, Shelly Marie Redmond, MS, RD, LDN, entered college!

Shelly Marie Redmond lived a life a bit different than most kids.  While kids her age were eating fast-food, telling off their parents, and being a bit wild; Shelly was raised with a garden, and used words such as ‘please’and ‘thank you.’ While sometimes made fun of for being a ‘pet’  and ‘prude,‘ she soon realized as she entered college her parents were on to something!

Your typical college overachiever, Shelly was active in Greek life, student programming, and residential life. In her spare time, Shelly would indulge in reading every fashion and nutrition magazine on the planet, watching all movies with Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, and Frank Sinatra, and observing tea parties and etiquette practices at local hotels.  Shelly realized how drawn she was to the classics, and realized ‘The Little Things in Life Do Matter!’

2003 – The birth of CL:

While flat broke in her internship, Shelly realized a few things.  While she loved the fashion magazines, health magazines, and classic movies and mannerisms – nothing was out and available for students and sorority ladies on the matter. Fashion was way too expensive, cooking was too time consuming, and the classic manners were last updated in the mid 1900s.  At the same time, classmates would come to Shelly for advise on health, fashion, and, yes, mannerisms!  At that time, College Lifestyles ™ was born!

2004-2007:  Design of a Plan.

Shelly knew she was onto a great concept, since former professors would ask Shelly to attend classes and discuss her ‘professional’ knowledge.  She would speak to collegiate athletes, interns, sorority chapters on what else – health, fashion, and manners!

2004 also marked the year of our first intern!

2008 – The birth of a simple blog.

While Shelly loved chatting with students, she always wanted to leave students with something more resources. ‘What happened to the folks I chatted with?’ Shelly wondered.

Shelly decided to start a very simple blog, College Lifestyles, to give tips/advise on her favorite topics!  Little did she know, the emails would pour in on how folks loved the blog!

2008 – 9 months later.  The evolution of a site.:

The simple College Lifestyles blog was ‘upgraded’ to a full fledge website!  Shelly continued her travels, and was getting interest from interns on writing for the site!  WOW!

2008 – The year College Lifestyles expanded out internship virtually!
