My First Semester: Surviving Midterms

It’s not just the start of Pumpkin Spice Latte season and Halloween. It’s also time for midterms. As a freshman, midterms are unfamiliar and can leave you feeling flustered and stressed. Check out these suggestions to surviving your first midterm season.

In high school, studying for tests was easily done the night before—not anymore. Make a study schedule two weeks prior to your exam. This way, you’ll have plenty of time to ask your professors questions. Studying will be a breeze because you wont be spending the night before cramming.

Taking breaks helps you remember materials. Instead of studying eight hours straight, try studying for an hour at a time during the day. You won’t feel as overwhelmed! Go for a walk, grab a snack or read your favorite College Lifestyles article in between study sessions. At the end of every day, review what you’ve studied during your brain’s retained it all.

And don’t forget about your friend—the study group.. Make arrangements to meet with friends from class for a study session. Discussing materials with a group of people will really help to understand things better. If there’s a topic you’re confused on, someone in the group might be able to help you out. If the group isn’t confident in the topic, then you’ll know what you can ask your professor during a review or office hours.

Being well prepared is the best way to conquer midterms. Go into the test with these tips and feel confident about rocking those midterms!
