Breast Cancer Awareness: 3 Day Walks
October 17, 2012 | by

October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men.  In 2011 there were more than 2.6 million fabulous survivors in the United States.  Help increase this number by contributing to research funding and participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 day walks.

What is the walk?  The 3 day walk begins Friday and ends Sunday.  Each day participants walk an estimated 20 miles for a total of 60 miles.  At the end of each day you are welcomed “home” to a 3-day camp where dinning, hot showers, pink sleeping tents, and entertainment are provided.

Where is the walk held?  The walks are held in 14 cities across the country.  While some dates have already passed you can still look ahead to the walks in 2013!

How much do I have to raise?  It is required that you raise at least $2,300 to participate.  Seventy-five percent of the money raised helps fund national research and large public health outreach programs.  The remaining 25% of net proceeds funds local community research and affiliate outreach programs.

Additional information:  You must be 16 years old by the end of the year to walk in the event.  If you are between the ages of 15 and 17 you must provide a minor consent form signed by a parent or guardian and be accompanied by a parent or guardian throughout the walk.  Each participant must also provide a proof of medical insurance.

Remember the event will go on regardless of weather!  Grab some classy friends and family and sign up today.  For more information regarding Breast Cancer Awareness Month be sure to check out Angela Skane’s article.
