It’s that time of year again! Fall Recruitment. It’s time for sisters to join together, bond and prepare for the introduction of Potential New Members. This is the start of the year as a chapter. For most chapters it’s the first big event of the semester as well. That being said, a lot of time and effort will be put into making Fall Recruitment go smoothly and become very successful. During recruitment there are things that you need to constantly think about.

For Sisters:
Sorority Motto: What does your sorority stand for? What is the group of words that represents your sorority as a whole? Once you meet Potential New Members (PNMs) keep that in mind. Think about whether or not the PNM will be able to properly embody the words that represent your sorority.
Sisterhood: What exactly does sisterhood mean to you? Consider what makes you a sister and what are attributes that you think will make PNMs great sisters. Knowing exactly what sisterhood means to you helps decide whether or not a PNM is the right match.

Selective: Do not be afraid to be selective. It is impossible to genuinely like everyone and to have every PNM be a good match for your sorority. So be willing to weed out the girls that would not belong to or help make your sorority the best it can be!
Philanthropy: Being a part of a sorority also means dedicating your time to helping out a certain Philanthropic organization. Meaning, you need to give bids to girls who are not just looking to walk around campus in letters but also help your sorority and be willing to do philanthropy work as well.
Just like there are rules for sisters during Fall Recruitment, Potential New Members have rules too.
For Potential New Members
Organization: Know about the organizations you will be rushing. Take the time to do your research and find out what each sorority is about. Some chapters even have their own website so check them out. This is a great way to understand what the chapters on your campus have done and plan on doing in the future.
Be Yourself: Don’t pretend to be the girl you think the sorority will love, be yourself. Each sorority wants to get to know you as an individual and it is hard for them to know who you are if you are constantly pretending to be someone else.

Prepare: Make sure you know the proper dress code. During Recruitment different days require PNM’s to wear a certain attire i.e. business casual or semi-formal. Plan your outfit and proper necessities in advance. This way you will never be overdressed or underdressed.
Open Mind: Remember to always keep an open mind. Although you may have thought you belonged in one specific sorority, make sure you give each organization a chance to win you over. By keeping an open mind you will surely choose the best sorority for you!
As sisters and PNMs it is important to follow these rules when going through Fall Recruitment. By using this set of rules as a guide to getting through Fall Recruitment, sisters are sure to pick the best girls for their sorority and PNMs will pick a sorority that they will love. Fall Recruitment can be tough but it is the best way to ensure that you will have sisters for life.
