Group Interview: To Go Greek Or Not To Go Greek
September 15, 2012 | by

Are you considering going Greek?! With Fall Recruitment about to kick into full gear, sororities are working hard to catch your attention. As a new student, pledging can seem like a lot of commitment or even intimidating. If you’re trying to decide whether Greek Life is right for you, check out why these ladies told CL they pledged and love it!

CL: Why did you join a sorority?

“I joined a sorority so I could feel more involved on campus since I wasn’t a part of any sports or clubs. I wanted a way to be active with aspects of school other than just academics. “
- Rachel Squires, Duquesne University, Gamma Phi Beta

“I am very close with my sisters and mom. I wanted to have that at school. A family or bond.”
- Samantha Super, Alpha Sigma Tau Alumni Beta Eta Chapter

“My good friend and dorm room neighbor was going to ‘Meet the Greeks’ and invited me along. After meeting all the different girls that night and liking many of them a lot, I decided to go through formal recruitment. During the process I loved how passionate the girls were about their philanthropies, friendships, and Duquesne. I felt that it would be a really great way to pass time outside of school work – I could get involved on campus, have a distraction from stress, and have a whole group of girls I could turn to in the good times and bad.”
- Anastasia Ipatova, Duquesne University, Zeta Tau Alpha

CL: What was the biggest benefit for you after joining a sorority?

“All of the people I’ve met, and not just within my sorority– I’ve met so many people from Greek life in general and made so many friends I never would have met if I didn’t join Greek life.”
- Rachel Squires, Duquesne University, Gamma Phi Beta

“Friends for a lifetime. I have been in two AST weddings; it’s a bond you can not explain.”
- Samantha Super, Alpha Sigma Tau Alumni Beta Eta Chapter

“My biggest benefit, other than learning to manage my time extremely well, was making new friends within my own sorority, other sororities, and even outside of Greek Life altogether.”
- Anastasia Ipatova, Duquesne University, Zeta Tau Alpha

CL: What’s your funniest/best memory during pledging your sorority?

“My best memory from pledging was getting my Big because that is when I really started to feel like a part of the sorority.”
- Rachel Squires, Duquesne University, Gamma Phi Beta

“During my time as an active member it wasn’t the mixers or philanthropy events I remember most, although those were fun, the memories I remember most are the girls nights that weren’t planned just having fun and being silly.”
- Samantha Super, Alpha Sigma Tau Alumni Beta Eta Chapter

“My best memory of pledging was definitely Big/Little night – it was a wonderful bonding experience both for my pledge class as “baby bunnies”, with our “Bigs”, and with so many of the other girls in the chapter who we hadn’t had a chance to get to know.”
- Anastasia Ipatova, Duquesne University, Zeta Tau Alpha
