Choosing to study abroad for a semester, a year, or longer is a daunting and exciting decision. However, many classy co-eds challenge themselves and make the decision to spend time abroad each year.

Once abroad, especially in a country that is known for its cuisine, it is easy to forget what it really means to be healthy. Fortunately, there are ways to eat healthy and still indulge. Eating out is a great thing to experience in another country, but doing it every single day can easily become very expensive. Consider setting up a splurge day.

1.Cooking at home is a great way to learn more about the food you are eating and a fun way to unwind. If your campus is diverse, hosting a potluck style dinner and asking everyone to bring a dish native to their country is great way to learn about their culture food. Also consider these exciting ice cream tips.

2. Do a lot research before heading to the market or store to make sure you can ask for what you need in the native language and read food labels which will most likely be in different measurements than you are accustomed to. Be prepared for the high possibility of not being able to find items you have back at home. Don’t fret because you can always find similar alternatives.

3. Consider buying packaged foods in the grocery store but try going to local produce markets for fresh fruits and vegetables for the best of what is in season.

4. Lastly, start a conversation with the people running the market. Not only will you work on your language skills, you will learn a great deal about an aspect of your host nation’s society you probably never thought much about.
