Foods to Keep in the Dorm Room

Breakfast:

Oatmeal: Oatmeal is a good meal to keep you full for a long time! Mix it with chia seeds and fresh berries. I’ve also like adding a little bit of peanut butter for protein.

Milk: This is a staple, especially if you are a coffee lover! Just a tip: don’t buy a full gallon. Buy a half-gallon instead, so you are less likely to waste it (milk spoils fast) or take turns buying with your roommate and share!

Fresh Fruit: Fruit is always tasty and easy to snack on. Keep bananas and apples in your mini-fridge to keep them fresh.

Greek Yogurt: I’m sure you’re familiar with the Greek yogurt craze that’s going on right now. It’s the perfect choice for a quick breakfast. Try flavored Chobani yogurts and mix with a little bit of granola for a yummy morning parfait.

Snacks:

Hummus and Veggies: Hummus is a healthy snack that will fill you up. Personally, I love Sabra Roasted Red Pepper hummus with pretzel flats or raw vegetables.

Protein Bars: These are great for when you’re running from class to class and need a quick snack. Luna bars are a great option and come in lots of tasty flavors!

Popcorn: A standard for a movie night! Also, surprisingly enough, if you buy popcorn without salt or butter it is one of the healthier junk foods.

Peanut Butter: Who doesn’t love peanut butter? It’s great with rice cakes and slices of fruit!

Lunch/Dinner:

Rice: There are several brands of rice that come in a microwaveable bag. Mix it with some vegetables and spices in a whole grain wrap for a healthy meal.

Beverages:

Coconut Water: Coconut water is naturally fat-free and full of nutrients. It also has as much potassium as a banana and the minimum sugar makes it a better choice than soda. So if you aren’t a water kind of person, try coconut water to stay hydrated!

Tea: This was one of those things that was a staple in my dorm room. While I wasn’t allowed a coffee maker, Chai tea gave me all the caffeine I needed. If you’re having trouble sleeping, drink Sleepytime tea or chamomile with natural relaxers. You’ll thank me in the morning.

Next time you’re grocery shopping, try adding some of these foods to your cart and you’ll never have to make a late-night pizza run while at school! Also, check out Cassandra’s article on foods that help you focus!
