Whether its home-cooked meals or napping on your favorite couch, there’s really no place like home. So what happens when you go to college? Whether you go to school across the country or just two hours away, check out these tips on how to avoid being homesick!
Bring pictures:
A picture is worth a thousand words! Use framed photos of friends and family for a happy trip down memory lane.
Make Skype dates:
Sometimes a phone call just isn’t enough! Set up a Skype account which would enable you to video chat with loved ones back home.
Recreate your favorite recipes:
Being far from home doesn’t mean you can’t have your favorite home-cooked meals. Learn your favorite recipes before heading off to college and invite your roommates to have fun, family style dinner together!
Don’t forget movie night:
It’s likely that many of your new friends also had weekly traditions, from game night to movie night, with their families back home. Meet up weekly to play Apples to Apples or rent the latest Red Box and keep those traditions with you!
Be active:
Whether it’s working out or painting outside, keeping your mind and body occupied so you won’t think about missing home.
Ask for Care Packages:
Care packages are like heaven in a box. Before heading off to college, mention the idea to your parents about wanting some kind of mail from home. There’s nothing sweeter than being surprised with a box full of your favorite candy and a letter from mom sending you love.
Don’t let a new environment scare you into wanting to be back home. Open yourself to change and gain college confidence!
