August 6, 2012 | by

It’s back to school season co-eds!  After you buy your new books and dorm décor, it’s time to go shopping for your fall wardrobe!  Not sure what trends are popular on the fall runways?  Don’t worry!  CL has 5 back to school trends perfect for fall!

1. Polka Dots

Spotted: polka dots popping up everywhere!  From classy sweaters to edgy pants, polka dots are the top pattern this fall.  This style is easy to work into any wardrobe and is great for a casual day look or trendy date night statement.  When you’re rushing to class, pair this J. Crew polka dotted sweater with jeans for a quick and easy (yet classy and put together) outfit!

2. Chambray

Chambray is the perfect trend for a cool and casual fall day!  Dress it up with a skirt or dress it down with a pair of jeans- either way your style will pop.  This western take on the chambray top from Nordstrom is a must have in any fall wardrobe!

3. Peplums

One trend making the transition from summer to fall is the peplum.  This look is perfect for campus because it makes the transition from the fashion runways to every day life seamlessly.  Pair this peplum top from Topshop with colored denim for a bold evening look!

4. Leather

One of the downsides to fall: it starts to get cold.  It’s easy to start feeling bulky under layers of clothing and heavy jackets.  Lucky for us, this season the runways were filled with a stylish way to stay warm- leather!  This edgy jacket from Free People rocks an asymmetrical zipper, adding even more to your look!

5. Boyfriend-Chic

If you’re looking for the perfect casual fall look, this trend is for you!  This season is all about “boyfriend” styled clothing, meaning loose-fitting items with a boyish structure.  One of the easiest ways to wear this trend this fall is with boyfriend jeans.  This pair from Gap is perfect for class or hitting the library on a lazy Sunday afternoon.  Pair them with a cardigan or blazer for a more tailored look.
