What better way to celebrate Independence day than by enjoying the season’s freshest berries in our country’s colors? Most of these desserts, like this strawberry and blueberry trifle, combine these delicious fruits for a killer color and taste combination. If you don’t have time to make the angel food cake or cool whip and pudding filling, try making it a giant parfait with vanilla yogurt and granola.

Or you can make the entire thing bite-sized with these adorable mini strawberry shortcakes. Just slice strawberries, use a cute cookie cutter to stamp out pieces of pound cake, and layer with cool whip and blueberries. The fancy looking presentation will have guests impressed with your culinary skills.

If you’re feeling a bit more creative, try these patriotic cake balls. Add a twist to traditional cake balls — made by mixing cake and frosting, rolling the mixture into balls, and dipping them into melted chocolate — by adding red and blue food coloring to your cake batter and using festive sprinkles over white chocolate. These little treats are sure to be a hit at any party you attend.

If you’re willing to try something a little more difficult, make these surprisingly low-calorie red, white and blue cheesecake bars. At only 200 calories per bar, these delicious fruit-filled treats are great additions to any party’s menu without ruining anyone’s diet.

If you don’t consider yourself to be very kitchen-savvy, you could always go with an easy classic: red, white and blue JELL-O parfaits.  Simply prepare a red and blue flavor of gelatin, cut them into 1/2-inch squares, and layer in sundae dishes with cool whip. This treat is perfect for a hot summer day, and is enjoyed by kids and adults alike.

If you’re going for the minimalist approach when it comes to time and effort in the kitchen, try these simple patriotic ice cream sandwiches. They may look fancy, but all you have to do is buy a box of your favorite ice cream sandwiches, unwrap them, and sprinkle with red, white and blue.

Whether you’re clueless in the kitchen or looking to try something new, one of these holiday desserts is bound to be perfect for you and whichever party you’ll be headed to this 4th of July.
