For years I’ve managed to hoard a collection of brightly-colored heels in my closet that never seemed to get worn. Sure, they were all adorable and had plenty of potential but sat stagnantly on the shelf among my plethora of other neutral colored shoes. To my surprise, it took little more than some time, patience and creativity to master the trick of incorporating some colorful footwear into an outfit. Here are some tips to keep in mind when figuring out how to successfully pull off a pair of those vivid pumps:
1. Match Shoes with Accessories

When adding bright colors into your outfit has you feeling more clashy than classy, paying attention to the details can save a lot of time and frustration. Pick a bracelet, necklace, scarf or purse that matches or compliments the liveliness of your footwear. The small additions of separated color help to blend the shoes into the outfit without causing you to resemble a box of crayons.
2. Neutral Clothes, Bold Shoes

Wearing bright shoes with more neutral blacks, grays, tans and whites is always a safe way to dress. Opt for mute colors and materials, and those adorable yellow heels will pop without straining the eyes.
3. Color Blocking

It’s one of the hottest trends this summer and requires some creative thinking from any risk taker who dares to pull it off. Worn correctly, a color blocked outfit is both stylish and eye-catching . Style Prompt blogger Nick Robinson shares advice in one of his posts about how to best pull off the hot new trend:

“The most popular theory for combining colors is called the rule of two-thirds. How you achieve the rule of two-thirds starts by making an equilateral triangle (a triangle with 3 equal sides) on the color wheel. In it’s most basic form, the points at the ends of this triangle will be touching either red-blue-yellow or orange-green-purple. From there, you pick two of the three colors that the triangle touches. These colors will almost always harmonize together beautifully.”
The next time you’re struggling to put together an outfit with a cute new pair of vivid heels, just keep these tips in mind. Have any other creative ideas about outfit combinations or pictures of your bright shoes? Share them below!
