Top 10 Stylish & Practical Ways to Wear Scarves

It may be summer but don’t put away those scarves just yet. A scarf can be used year-round from your head to your toes (literally). Here is a list of modern things you can do with a scarf.

Hair Accessories: Remember back when Lauren Conrad made it trendy to wear a scarf as a headband on The Hills? Not only can you use it as a headband but also a 2011 scrunchie! Yes ladies, wrap a skinny scarf around your hair for a ponytail or up in a bun. I use a scarf at night to wrap around my hair to keep my pin curls secure.

Chic Necklace: Take a cue from Blair Waldorf and try tying a scarf around your neck. Choosing bright colors or patterns can instantly make an outfit look more sophisticated.

Handbags: Instead of buying new purses, accessorize them! Choose a solid color bag can tie a scarf around the handle or latch. This works best with hobos and satchels.

Traditional: There’s over 50 ways to tie a scarf around your neck. Whether it is to keep you warm in the winter or looking artsy in the spring, there is a style for you. Try a bandana scarf for the rocker look. Icing, Hot Topic, and Kohl’s have a lot of designs to choose from.

Belts: You can accentuate your waist by tying a scarf right above your belly button. Try this when wearing a flowy dress or boxy shirt. Or you can put a scarf around your belt loops on your jeans or skirts.

Sarong: Why buy a beach cover up when you have a scarf? Tie a light, wide scarf around your hip and lay out in the sand. You can also try this look when wearing jeans for a hippie inspired outfit.

Shrug: When wearing a fitted t-shirt, drape a long scarf around your shoulders and back. Cover your arms (above your elbows) with the scarf and tie the ends with a loose knot behind you.

Cross Shawl: A long wide scarf can serve as a cardigan or light jacket. Let it hang around the center of your shoulders and cross the left in to your right shoulder. Repeat the step on the other side. Both ends will be draping on your back.

Shoes: In the summer wedge heels are perfect for accessorizing. Spice up your wedges by trying a square scarf around one ankle strap. Doing this makes your outfit unique and shows off your creativity.

Pets: Who says you’re the only one who has to look great? Pets need fashion too! :-) Even if its just for fun, you and your pet can wear matching scarves around your necks. Take a quick Twitpic and watch all the comments you’ll get.

Scarves are sold virtually in every clothing store. From The Gap, Wet Seal, and Forever 21 ranging from $5-30. To expand your wardrobe I suggest getting a variety of textured scarves in all lengths. Have a great time accessorizing!
