School’s out and it’s time to relax… Now that there are more hours in the day not filled with homework, projects, and facebook stalking, it’s time for crafting! Here are some fun summer crafts that you can do when you have some down time!
1. Koozie Shmoozie. Here is a fun way to keep your Diet Cokes cold while you are chilling by the pool. Personalized koozies are not only great for keeping your soda chilled, but also fun to show off to your friends. You can make them school spirited, sorority styled, or even just in your favorite color combinations! Here are some easy steps you can follow, or just personalize however you choose!
- Grab a Koozie from a craft store like Michaels (they are only $1 and come in awesome colors!)
- Use a small screw driver or a metal skewer to punch holes around the top (three in the front and two in the back) to secure the ribbon.
- Punch the ribbon through the hole to wrap your koozie.
- Personalize with puffy paint (can also be purchased at a craft store like Michaels).
2. Hydration Helper. Those long hours working on your tan by the pool or on the beach are hard work. It’s always important to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water! Here is a cute way to spice up a plain old
water bottle or Nalgene!
- You can find a fun water bottle from a store like Target.
- Use some thick grosgrain ribbon to tie on your bottle (Use hot glue to secure your ribbon).
- You can either use puffy paint or a paint pen (both can be purchased at a craft store like Michaels) to personalize.
- Think about adding your name or a fun summer quote like “sunshine and summertime.”
3. Coffee Keeper. Here is something for the working crowd. Need something to keep your morning coffee or tea warm for your daily commute? Picture travel mugs can keep your cup of joe warm and remind you of your friends and summer weekend plans.
- You can pick up the travel mug at craft stores like Michaels for around $10.
- Pick out some pictures of you and your friends and make a collage, or use one big picture that you love.
- Add some personal touches with ribbon on the interior.
- Again, think about using some fun summer quotes. You can use your paint pen to write a saying or a name.
- You can also just use a fun scrap booking paper and “monogram” with your initials over top with a paint pen or puffy paint!
Summer time is the best time to “craft the night away!” You can spend some spare time working on these crafts for yourself, but even better for your friends! These make great graduation gifts, birthday gifts, or just “I am thinking of you gifts!” These are simple and fun for any classy co-ed, so try them out and tell me what you think, let me know your own twist on these so that I can try them out too!

Awesome! I made travel mugs for a few of my sorority sisters and they were a hit! Even my boyfriend thought they were great! I love how crafts can up the glam factor without the huge price tag!
I am so big into this – especially at a picnic where folks can ‘steal your glass on accident.’ Make and bring your own!
