If you can’t tell I’m big into dancing (especially for exercise!). I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old and learning about new forms is awesome. But dancing is always a fun exercise too. I already told you about salsa but now I’m onto belly dancing!
The first semester I transferred to Point Park I had the opportunity to take a belly dancing class at the school. Kari, the instructor is a professional with her own troupe in Pittsburgh, called Sadiqa.

So this isn't my class, but looks fun right?
I learned that belly dancing is a great strengthening and stretching work out. You really learn to tone your muscles and get better control of them.Wikipedia has this to say about the health benefits
“Many of the moves involve isolations, which improves flexibility of the torso. Dancing with the veil can help build strength in the upper-body, arm and shoulders. The legs and long muscles of the back are strengthened by hip movements. Paffrath also researched the effect of belly dance on women with menstruation problems. The subjects reported a more positive approach toward their menstruation, sexuality, and bodies.”
Plus it’s a super sexy way of dancing and always keeps you interested. It’s a huge ego/self-esteem boost!

Here’s a link to look up classes in your area, even outside the States (shout out to Deirdre!)
There are also some great information about belly dancing online and some videos!
Liz is an intern with College Lifestyles (TM). She is a junior, print journalism major at Point Park University and a proud sister of Alpha Sigma Tau. She loved belly dancing and even bought a hip scarf last year – which is now being used as a table covering lol.

Oh my gosh I’ve always wanted to try belly dancing! Love this post. Thanks for the shout out, Liz!
I love ‘Shimmy’ on Fit TV! I always giggle when I start the program, but after 5 minutes, I am really shaking!
We did belly dancing in my weight lifting/aerobics gym class in college—it wad a riot!
omg i would be an epic fail at this lol. but i bet it’s a lot of fun!
